Lamson Liquid Fly Reel Review

In this Lamson Liquid Fly Reel Review we discuss why we think the Lamson Liquid makes a strong case for being one of the best budget-friendly fly reels on the market today.

One Piece Design

Lamson has taken die-cast technology to the highest level with a one-piece, curved-edge frame design to create the highest strength possible in a reel that isn’t machined.

Drag System

The drag on these reels is liquid-smooth and built to perform at the highest level. The Lamson Liquid Fly Reel utilizes a cone-style drag system opposed to a series of stacked pads or discs. This drag system offers dependable performance with a small footprint that helps to keep the reel nice and light.

Drag System

The drag knob has five raised spokes that are easy to grab, allowing you to quickly make minute adjustments to the infinitely-variable drag pressure.

This is the same high-performance drag system that Lamson uses on their high-end reels but without the high-end price tag.

Sizes

Lamson uses a unique sizing designation. For example, their smallest reel is a -3+, this sizing means the reel is suitable for a 2wt, 3wt or 4wt. Consequently the next size up is the -5+ that can be used on a 4wt, 5wt or 6wt. The other sizes offered by Lamson are the -7+ and -9+. There’s a Lamson Liquid Fly Reel available for almost every size of fly rod on the market.

Colours

The Liquid is currently offered in two very sharp colour options. The Smoke, which as the name implies, is a greyish smokey colour and the Glacier, which is a pretty cool light blue colour.

3-Pack

Lamson really kicked the Liquid up a notch by offering the reel in a 3-pack. This includes the reel, 2 extra spools and a convenient carrying case. This is especially great for an angler who is just taking up the sport as it allows for  multiple types of lines to be loaded without breaking the bank.

Price

The Liquid starts at $179.98 and goes up to $199.98. The Lamson Liquid 3-pack starts at $289.98 and goes up to $329.98.  There’s no doubt that the Lamson Liquid is a great fly reel at great price.

Verdict

No matter if you’re new to fly fishing or a seasoned veteran, the Lamson Liquid is a fly reel that won’t disappoint. We hope you found our Lamson Liquid Fly Reel Review helpful.
